We all have those moments of greatness, when we have read the green just right, taken a risk and sunk that golf ball for birdie, or eagle. The X-factor in reading greens, and putting in general has a lot to do with how well you can see. On episode #23 of Golf Better @ Edwin Watts Golf, (more…)

Often what happens in transition, from the back swing to the forward swing, is that wrists tend to take on a life of their own. Kirk Jones of the Golf Institute of Technology explains the steps to eliminate this and have your wrists work in concert with your entire body to achieve a great swing, with a balanced finish on this episode of Golf Smarter Tips.
Kirk has a new Golf School. This may be the most golf effective and cost effective program you’ll find anywhere. You’ve heard what Kirk has to say on the podcast, sign up now to get your lessons face to face.

Recently, we asked GOLF SMARTER podcast listeners to join in on the June 14th National Sorta Golf Day and send in their thoughts about our interview with the Commissioner of the Sorta Golf Association, Donn Glenn. Not surprisingly, we had many reactions to Donn’s ideas on how to improve the pace of play and how make the game more fun for non competitive players. Thanks to everyone who wrote in for the SORTAGolf contest. To recap, here are the Golfer’s Bill of Rights, or their seven amendments to the USGA rules:
1.) Improve Your Lie
2.) Inside the Leather is Good
3.) Double Bogey is Max
4.) One In/One Out Principle
5.) Any Found Ball is Yours
6.) All Equipment is Conforming
7.) One Mulligan Per Round
While I may not agree with all these, I like the idea that there can be a separate set of rules for those not competing in tournaments. Two listeners who won a prize package from Sorta Golf were announced on yesterday’s episode of the GOLF SMARTER podcast and in this blog, but we also wanted to share a small, but passionate, sampling of other reactions we received from our audience… (more…)

If you give yourself the freedom to fail, you may ultimately play a better game of golf. Michael Anthony, author of “The Mental Key to Improve Your Golf,” answers a listener’s question by explaining that getting nervous and worked up takes you out of the present, on this episode of Golf Smarter Tips. Like the adage “If you want it, you cannot have it; If you don’t want it, it’s yours,” you have to make yourself believe that you don’t want it.

When you strike the ball and it goes awry, most golfers think about changing the ball flight, not changing their swing. Kirk Jones of the Golf Institute of Technology explains on this episode of Golf Smarter Tips that if you swing through the ball to a balanced finish, and don’t think about striking the ball, your ball flight will automatically improve.

The worst thing that can happen before you hit the ball is being distracted and going through with the shot. It’s really important when you lose focus of the moment, to take a step back, regroup and start again. You’ve see Tiger do it many, many times. It’s OK for you to do it too. Whether you call it a Mental Mulligan or a Do Over, this episode of Golf Smarter Tips is an important reminder that restarting your pre-shot routine never costs you strokes on the scorecard.
