When I first heard about “The Dog Listener“, I kept thinking thinking “Dog Whisperer.” There’s no connection. Jan Fennell wrote the book and coined the phrase “The Dog Listener” having developed a system of training that’s based on learning to communicate with dogs in a way that they can understand. Very simply, you learn to become the leader of the pack and, relieved of responsibility, your dog can relax.
The ‘Dog Listener’ on this week’s Good Dog podcast is Penny Locke, like Fennell, from Great Britain. I’ve interviewed a host of dog trainers but Penny’s message rang true in ways that in just one week have gotten me to revamp my way of interacting with Lulu. As a result, she’s calmer and more responsive to me. It’s really quite amazing, particularly in such a short time.
